Abstract

The term ‘land’ denotes an uninhabited landmass, but when words like usage, utility, etc., are associated with it, it is understood as a land resource. Currently, land use is a significant dynamic aspect in geographical studies, as it has undergone continuous transformation from the early periods to the stages of human technological development. Under ‘land use,’ the landmass is utilized according to its natural characteristics. In its initial state, landmasses are either covered with vegetation or devoid of it. Thus, if a piece of land remains unaffected by human intervention or is being utilized in its natural state, the term ‘land use’ is appropriate for such land. The term ‘utility’ is used in a practical context, signifying that utility represents a developmental and long-term process.

Abstract in Hindi Language: ‘भूमि’ शब्द मानवरहित भूखंड का द्योतक है, लेकिन इसके साथ जब प्रयोग, उपयोग आदि शब्दों का प्रयोग किया जाता है, तो यह भूमि संसाधन के रूप में स्पष्ट होता है। वर्तमान में भूमि उपयोग भौगोलिक अध्ययन में एक महत्वपूर्ण परिवर्तनशील पक्ष है, क्योंकि प्रारंभिक काल से लेकर मानव प्रविधि विकास क्रम तक यह परिवर्तित होता रहा है। ‘भूमि प्रयोग’ के अंतर्गत भू-भाग प्रकृति-प्रदत्त विशेषताओं के अनुसार रहता है। प्रारंभिक अवस्था में भू-भाग वानस्पतिक आवरण से आच्छादित या वनस्पतिविहीन रहता है। इस प्रकार, यदि कोई भू-भाग मानवीय प्रभावों से वंचित है अथवा उसका उपयोग प्राकृतिक रूप से हो रहा है, तो उस भू-भाग के लिए ‘भूमि प्रयोग’ शब्द का प्रयोग समीचीन होगा। ‘उपयोग’ शब्द व्यावहारिक संदर्भ में प्रयुक्त होता है, अर्थात् उपयोग एक विकासशील दीर्घकालिक प्रक्रिया को व्यक्त करता है।
