Corporate Governance and Financial Performance: A Cross-Sectional Study based on Nifty 50 Companies

Abstract

Due to rising financial scams around the world, corporate governance has got prominence and has become one of the important aspects treated on par with financial information while evaluating an investment. The present study is an effort in examining the relationship between corporate governance and financial performance of Nifty 50 companies using the data for a period of one year from April 1, 2024 to march 31, 2025. The study considered return on equity (ROE) and return on asset (ROA) as proxies for financial performance. Independent sample T-test and linear regression techniques were used for data analysis. The analysis revealed insignificant relationship between corporate governance and financial performance.

Dr C V Purushotham, Associate Professor, ABBS School of Management

Dr C V Purushotham received Masters in Business Administration from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and also obtained PhD from the same University in Management domain. He is currently working as an Associate Professor at ABBS School of Management, Bangalore. He has 9 years of teaching experience and 4 years of corporate experience in the fields of Financial Reporting & Mutual Fund Accounting. His areas of interest include Financial Management, Investment Appraisal and Management, Securities Trading Strategies & Behavioural Finance. He has done certifications from National Stock Exchange (NISM). His work also covers Financial Modelling and Risk Analytics.
