Abstract

The study examines the influence of governance institution quality on educational inequality in 63 provinces in Vietnam through the Vietnam Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) and the Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey (VHLSS) within 5 years (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020). The article measures educational inequality using the Gini index through the average years of schooling as suggested by Thomas et al. (2001). Applying the generalized method of moments (GMM), the study shows that the quality of governance institutions has a negative effect on educational inequality. From there, the study proposes recommendations to enhance the quality of governance institutions and improve educational inequality in Vietnam.
