Abstract

Housing facilities of marginalized communities are always a matter of concern to the authorities. Therefore, government come up with and implement social security projects for such vulnerable groups. One such project of the Kerala government is the PUNARGEHAM project. It is a project which aims at permanent rehabilitation of families living in the coastline of Kerala. It was considered as a solution to the reeling problem of coastal erosion in the state. This paper attempts to find out the impact of PUNARGEHAM project on the fisher folk community in the selected villages of Alappuzha. This is a descriptive study where 60 samples are collected through simple random sampling method and primary data is collected through structured interview schedule. The study will have practical implications on the execution of PUNARGEHAM project and will contribute to the literature.

Dr. Sreedhar.P.Nair, Assistant Professor & HOD, St.Michaels College, Cherthala, Alappuzha, Kerala-688539

Dr.Sreedhar.P.Nair received his Bachelors degree in Commerce and Masters degree in Commerce

from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam,Kerala,India. He obtained his Ph.D. Degree in “Human Resource Management in Selected Public Sector Undertakings in Kerala" from Mahatma Gandhi University,Kottyam,Kerala,India.He is the Assistant Professor &Head of the Department of Commerce and Management of St.Michael’s College,Cherthala,Kerala,India.He is a research guide in the faculty of Commerce at  University of Kerala. He has published numerous research articles in national and international journals. He has also authored many books focusing on the areas of Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Organisational Behaviour, Corporate Governance, Marketing Management etc. He has participated and presented papers in many national and international seminars and conferences. He has also organised UGC sponsored national seminars.He has undertaken a UGC Minor Research Project on “Evaluation of Entrepreneurial Opportunities in the Coastal Areas of Kerala- A Project Undertaken to Enlighten the Youths in Fishing Community”.He has a vast experience in teaching, research and administration. He is currently the member of the Academic Committee, UG (Commerce), Sree Narayana Guru Open University, Kerala, Indian Accounting Association and Indian Red Cross Society.

Ms. Sandra Noronha, Research Scholar, Kerala University

Sandra Noronha received her bachelor degree in Commerce from M.G University, Kottayam, Kerala, India with specialisation in Co-operation, Master of Commerce in Finance stream from M.G University, Kottayam, Kerala, India. She has also qualified K-SET in Commerce, UGC-NET in Commerce and UGC-JRF in Commerce. She has 5 years of university teaching experience. She has also presented papers in national and international seminars. She is currently doing Ph.D in Commerce at Kerala University, on the topic “Socio-Economic status of Fisherfolk in Kerala”, under the guidance of Dr.Sreedhar.P.Nair, Assistant Professor and HOD, Department of Commerce and Management, St.Michaels College, Cherthala, Kerala, India.
