Lohardaga district is situated between 23°30' 23°40' north latitude to 84°40'-84°50' east longitude. This research paper is based on primary sources of data to represent different aspects of soils of Lohardaga district with the help of samples of soils taken from different villages of the district and analysed by soil scientists of Birsa Agriculture University, Ranchi. Sampling technique has been used for collecting soil samples for chemical analysis. On the whole it is clear from the samples of the village that soil reaction tends to be more and more acidic as one move from lower level, i.e. from Don to Tanr. Soil in the sample villages of Pat area is red sandy or brownish to reddish yellow on the high pebbly uplands to gray or dark grey in the low clayey Don lands with shallow depth & poor soil structure. Major constraints for agriculture development in these Pat region sample villages are soil having low organic matter, shallow soil depth, low water retention capacity, low fertility, poor soil structure, soil erosion and loss of nutrients and organic matters with run-off water.
