Abstract

This study examines the relationship between Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and Psychological Well-Being (PWB) among Kharwar tribal migrants in Uttar Pradesh, India. Drawing on Ryff’s multidimensional model of well-being and Cultural Intelligence Theory, the research employed a cross-sectional survey design with 267 male participants. Descriptive analyses revealed low educational attainment and income instability among most participants. Correlation analysis showed a statistically significant positive association between CQ and PWB (r = .328, p < .001), indicating that higher levels of cultural adaptability are linked to better psychological outcomes. Hierarchical regression further confirmed CQ as a significant predictor of PWB (β = .355, p < .001), even after accounting for key demographic factors such as age, education, income, family structure, and occupation. CQ contributed an additional 11.7% variance in predicting well-being, emphasizing its role as a vital psychosocial resource. These findings suggest that CQ serves as a vital psychological resource aiding tribal migrants in culturally diverse environments.
