Abstract

The NEP 2020 refers to the National Education Policy 2020. The Government of India presented this policy document in July 2020. The National Education Policy 2020 recognizes the significant role libraries play in creating a culture of reading as a crucial part of lifelong learning. It also emphasizes the need to achieve this goal by providing adequate resources and trained librarians.  However, the transformation of libraries goes beyond just access to physical and digital resources. It also involves reimagining the space as a vibrant hub for learning, collaboration, and innovation. The NEP 2020 promotes the development of interactive library spaces that inspire students and community members to think critically and creatively. Additionally, the policy emphasizes integrating libraries into the broader educational ecosystem to enrich and supplement the educational process. This includes working together with neighborhood organizations, universities, and educational institutions to engage a variety of populations and reach a larger audience. The importance of libraries in conserving indigenous and local knowledge is emphasized in NEP 2020. It promotes the growth of community libraries that act as repositories of traditional knowledge, cultural history, and folklore. In this sense, libraries serve as centers for academic pursuits and guardians of the nation's rich cultural legacy. The NEP 2020 lays out a thorough plan for libraries to become more than just places to store books; they will become hubs for inclusive education, cultural preservation, and creativity.
