Psychological Conflict of Naval in Pannalal Patel’s Short Story “Vatrakne Kanthe”

Abstract

Pannalal Patel’s contribution to Gujarati short stories is notable for his unique portrayal of human hearts within distinct social settings, capturing both their complexities and subtle sensitivities. Patel is renowned as a chronicler of the emotional life of rural communities. His short story “Vatrakne Kanthe” symbolically represents human inner conflict. The main character, Naval, is depicted as being trapped between his inner emotional world, social circumstances, and moral values. The aim of this research paper is to analyze Naval’s psychological conflict and highlight how the author artistically presents these mental struggles in the story.

Abstract in Gujarati Language: પન્નાલાલ પટેલે ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યમાં ટૂંકીવાર્તા ક્ષેત્રે જે  વિશિષ્ટ સામાજિક પરિવેશથી માનવ હદયોને એમની આંટીઘૂંટીઓ અને ક્યાંક એમની સરળ વેધક્તાને જે વિશિષ્ટ રીતે  ઝીલવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો તે નોંધપાત્ર છે. પન્નાલાલ પટેલ ગ્રામ્ય જીવનનાં સંવેદનશીલ જાનપદી વાર્તાનાં ચિતકાર તરીકે જાણીતા છે. તેમની ટૂંકીવાર્તા ‘વાત્રકને કાંઠે’ માનવીનાં આંતરિક સંઘર્ષને પ્રતીકાત્મક રીતે રજૂ કરે છે. આ વાર્તાનું મુખ્ય પાત્ર નવલ પોતાના આંતરિક ભાવ-જગત, સામાજિક પરિસ્થિતિ અને નૈતિક મૂલ્યો વચ્ચે ફસાયેલ જોવાં મળે છે. આ શોધપેપરનો ઉદ્દેશ નવલનાં મનોસંઘર્ષનું વિશ્લેષણ તથા લેખકે આ વાર્તામાં આવતાં માનસિક સંઘર્ષને  કલાત્મક રૂપ આપી સમજાવ્યું છે તેને ઉજાગર કરવાનું રહેશે.
