Indian poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore is internationally admired for his literary achievements and insightful views on the human condition. Tagore’s humanism, which places a premium on people’s inherent worth, autonomy, and interdependence, underpins his entire worldview. This presentation will explore Tagore’s humanistic philosophy by analyzing the tension between particularism and universalism in his writings. This article will analyze several of Tagore’s works, including “Gitanjali” and “The Home and the World,” to demonstrate how his humanism is universal and provides a fresh take on the value of every individual. In addition, it will analyze how Tagore’s humanism informed his educational initiatives, social reforms, and his ideal of a peaceful society. Our study’s overarching goal is to illuminate Tagore’s humanistic principles’ continued applicability in the modern world and their capacity to motivate constructive social action.
