Abstract

Hindi and Marathi are two major Indian languages that share deep cultural and historical connections. This research paper analyzes the entry of Marathi words into Hindi, focusing on their linguistic adaptation and the accompanying social and cultural responses. Drawing on the principles of language contact, the study explores the historical, social, and cultural factors that facilitated the incorporation of Marathi words into Hindi. It presents a detailed discussion of the morphological and phonetic adjustments these words underwent during their assimilation. The paper also examines literary, media, and public attitudes toward these borrowed words. The study concludes that the inclusion of Marathi words in Hindi is a natural linguistic process shaped by bilingualism, cultural exchange, and historical-political interaction. It reflects the dynamism and integrative capacity of the Hindi language. The findings suggest that this linguistic exchange enriches Hindi while promoting social cohesion and cultural interconnectedness.
